Uncensored with Michael Ware: Fashion Week
A couple days ago, I watched Uncensored with Michael Ware on the National
Geographic channel. At first, I’m very confused when seeing the theme
title, it’s fashion. F-A-S-H-I-O-N.
Seriously? Fashion theme in National Geographic?
Yes! And you should go watch it.
Michael Ware is an honest man, yes it’s true, he didn’t lie when he
commenting the Kanye West fashion show by ‘It’s very boring’ and shared his
personal thought about who should be called designer worthy.
Yep, he is not a man with great taste in fashion, but he represents a people's
mind who surprised people who released a clothing line because had billions of followers on IG and declared himself as a designer. The truth is, all
over the world already knew he only buy the designs from designers who work
on him.
As a (fashion) designer want to be, I very much agree with Michael Ware. If
you called yourself a designer you should be can designer, the people who
buy your designs and produce under his label couldn’t call designers, they are called a businessman.
FYI. The Kadarsihan stole the spotlight more than the show itself. They are...cushionable.
The latest issue I read about fashion week is the argument about fashion blogger
existence, most fashion journalists think they are very annoying and
didn’t have a journalist attitude. I understood because fashion journalists spent
a long process before releasing their writing, the critics came from research and (mostly) not from their personal taste. Besides that, this fashion
business is theirs, so they had a right to feel annoyed by the people who never
did the long process like them come instantly. I think so...
But let’s think about the marketing side.
When they come into fashion shows actually they didn’t really come as a
fashion blogger, they are fashion buzzers. That’s the truth.
As you know, the real fashion blogger is not always glamourous as the
common, the only one that makes them called fashion bloggers is they are writing about fashion on their blog and provide fashion content seriously. I
mean, they should have some research and analysis before writing right.
Because
sometimes they couldn’t get the pass for the fashion show or the events they
are writing about.
But nowadays fashion blogger called is in the grey area, are they really
fashion bloggers or just fashion enthusiasts? Sometimes, the social part took a bigger portion than the fashion part. Too many events make
them forget how to write because they are too busy to take a selfie and write a
caption.
So. In which part are you? The fashion journalist,
the fashion blogger, or the fashion enthusiast?
After watching several fashion show and peeking behind the stage Michael
Ware think that fashion is a complex business where art and creative people
work hard together to present a show just for us.
Fashion is an endless business, even every time isn’t enough to show you how
it lives. Since fashion became the most prospective business, it grew daily. Because fashion is not only about how to mix and match, prefer the
nice one, or pick the best. But how we live in it.
For me, Michael Ware is too stiff as being narrator, but considering his
background as a field journalist, he is the man who did his first Fashion Week
report. I understood. But, if I can choose, I prefer him doing an interview
than being a narrator because he is more relaxed and exciting.
Fashion reportage in Fashion TV is advertisement alike, but fashion
reportage in National Geographic is science. I wish National Geographic provide more about fashion in
science style like this.
