Labor Day

Let me introduce the character first...

Adele (Kate Winslet) is a beautiful woman who had a big interest in dance, in the past. She is depressed because of lost her several babies during on pregnancy, especially the last baby born. That condition made her husband leave her for his secretary. After that, she feels that the world is so cruel to her, and that’s why she is afraid to meet people and rarely leaves the house.

Henry (Gattlin Griffith) is a calm boy who lives with his mother, he has a schedule on the weekend for meeting with his father (and his new family too). That condition made him lose a father figure in his teenage life.

FrankChamber (Josh Grolin) is a convict, he (accidentally) murdered his wife and his son (actually, another man's son). He escaped from jail after getting surgery in hospital.

The story begins when Henry goes to the supermarket with his mom Adele, he meets with a bloody man who asks to take him into their house. At first, they act awkward... but they get closer after, at that time they don't know that Frank is a convict.

After a few days living together, they realized that Frank had everything they needed, a husband figure for Adele and a father figure for Henry. Also, Frank enjoyed having they’re. They did all regular family activities together such as playing baseball in the backyard, making a peach pie, and spending the afternoon together. They seem like a real family.

,
Then, they decided to escape to Canada to start their new life as a family, it’s a difficult situation because Frank is a convict and the cops hunting him. But, the desire to have a new life made them (Frank and Adele) become so serious and start packaging the stuff. Henry is confused, on one side he is very sad because he must separate from his (real) dad, but on the other side, he is very excited to start a new life with a new family.

On the it day (the escape day) Henry went to his father's house to send a goodbye letter and told him that they were moving to Canada. Unfortunately, there are so many (accidently) obstacles. From the cops who followed Henry, the curious neighbor until when Henry's father read his letter.

Absolutely, their plan isn't going as well as they expected, the police came after Henry's father reported. Frank feels guilty about taking them (Adele and Henry) into a difficult situation to decides to act as kidnappers and tie up them in the house, of course, the police can arrest him easily. It’s the saddest moment for Adele, she lets the police take Frank from her... while she needs him beside her.

After that Adele and Henry tried to negotiate with the police and say that Frank acted, but no matter how hard they tried to light up Frank punishment, it was still nonsense. The judge gave Frank 15 years of extras for his kidnapping act.

Adele loses Henry right and stays alone in that house and Henry visits her on weekends as he does to his father in the past. They’re trying to visit Frank in jail but isn't working, Adele spent her life writing letters to Frank, but those letters are never answered.

And time goes by...

Frank finds Henry's address in the magazine and writes him a letter, he is very happy about Henry's business and asks about Adele, he thinks Adele is married and wishes for a chance to meet her after his punishment is over.

Note: Henry's (Gattlin Griffith) face reminds me of Harry Potter cast Daniel Redcliff in an early Harry Potter movie.
